Confirm the notification is enabled

WooCommerce lets you enable or disable individual email types. Check the relevant notification, recipient addresses and subject settings before troubleshooting the mail server.

For admin notifications, verify that the configured recipient is current. For customer emails, confirm the order status actually triggers that notification.

Check the order event

Some messages are tied to payment completion or status transitions. A payment gateway, webhook or custom plugin can prevent the expected transition and therefore prevent the email from being generated.

Review order notes and logs to determine whether the problem is email delivery or the business event that should have triggered the email.

Use authenticated sending

Configure WordPress to use a reliable authenticated sender instead of depending on a local PHP mail function. Keep the From address on a domain you control and align it with the provider where possible.

If your shop sends high volumes, choose infrastructure that can handle transactional traffic without throttling.

Verify SPF, DKIM and DMARC

WooCommerce does not bypass normal email authentication requirements. The domain and sending service still need to be configured correctly.

Test a real order email and inspect its headers. A generic SMTP connection test can pass even when the actual WooCommerce message uses a different From address or routing path.

Review templates and extensions

Custom email builders and plugins can introduce malformed HTML, broken headers or unexpected sending behavior. Temporarily compare with a default template if delivery problems began after a customization.

Keep logging enabled while troubleshooting so you can correlate a specific order with a specific outbound message.
